Weekend of highs and lows in WorldSBK, WorldSSP and MotoGP

Lowes crashes after leading in Donington, Mahias shines with double podium, and Marini returns strong after serious injury

Donington Park, July 14, 2025 – The Prosecco DOC UK Round of the World Superbike Championship brought a mix of emotions for the top riders.

In WorldSBK, Alex Lowes (#22) started strong, qualifying on the front row with the third fastest time in the Tissot Superpole, just 0.147 seconds off the leader. During Race 1, Lowes led the early laps but crashed at the fast Craner Curves section, ending his hopes. He was initially diagnosed with an ankle sprain and declared “fit” to race on Sunday. However, after taking part in the Warm Up, the pain worsened, and he was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the round.

In WorldSSP, the GMT94 team and French rider Lucas Mahias (#94) had a solid weekend: he finished third in Race 1, earning his 33rd podium in the category, and improved to second in Race 2. These results put him sixth in the overall standings with 150 points.

Meanwhile, in MotoGP, Luca Marini (#10) made his return after a serious injury suffered on May 28 at Suzuka. After 44 days of recovery and missing the Grands Prix of Aragón, Italy and the Netherlands, the Italian was back on track at the German GP, finishing in a commendable sixth place — a strong showing despite the recent layoff.

It was a very positive weekend for the Puig-sponsored teams, showing —each in their own category— that despite the intense demands of competition, they continue to fight every day and achieve strong results that reflect their commitment, consistency, and competitiveness at the highest level of motorcycle racing.
