The Mallorcan rider (#36) claimed a brilliant third place in Motegi, bringing the factory team back to the MotoGP podium for the first time since this very race in 2023.
Mir’s performance started to take shape on Saturday in Q2, where he set a spectacular lap time that left him very close to pole position. In the sprint race, the 2020 World Champion finished fourth, confirming his strong pace. On Sunday, Mir went one step further: after a solid race, he secured the third step of the podium.
“It has been simply fantastic, I am super happy for myself and for Honda. After everything we have been through, to achieve this first podium, and especially here in Japan, is really special. It has been a long time for both myself and Honda without a moment like this, and sometimes it’s hard to keep the motivation, but this confirms that all the work we do is worth it,” said an emotional Mir after the race.
The result was celebrated with enthusiasm inside the Honda HRC Castrol garage, where a multitude of Honda Motor and HRC executives and staff witnessed live how #36 ended a long drought of joy for the Japanese factory at their home Grand Prix.
This podium is not only a personal triumph for Mir, who had not stood on the rostrum since 2021, but also an important morale boost for Honda as they continue their rebuilding phase in the championship.
